Hwanhee just released his solo album in October, and now comes Brian! The Korean-American R&B star showcases his Manifold talents in his highly anticipated second solo album. It's been three years since Brian's last solo record, and he's got plenty to prove with Manifold. Recently setting up his own label On Point Entertainment, Brian oversaw the progress and direction of the album himself, and just like the title says, the music embodies variety and versatility. Manifold focuses on urban club music, with Epik High's Tablo and Mithra and hip-hop duo Supreme Team appearing as featured artists on the album. He has a distinct and soothing voice, and wide vocal range. Imho, the music in this alum, although soothing and attractive, is not as creative as his first solo album.
It's just the music trend I suppose. But Brian stands out anyway because he is adaptive and talented. My favorite tracks are the regular and the English versions of Bullet which have nice rhythms and beats. Lock Me Up and Track 10 are my other 5 stars favorites, while One Step, Track 9 and Tears Run Dry are 4 stars.
All these tracks suit Brian nicely. His voice never fails to attract my attention. I think he might did some long searching and really dig into himself to the kind music that suits him. I just really adore this album. He is so talented yet needs great and suitable songs to be heard more powerful in vocal like this album.
I really support him and all his solo career. I'm ordering some for friends too. They also think that this album is really reflecting the real Brian Joo himself. Brian's sound is so distinct in this album.
It feels like 'Brian'. Like it's his territory and his cooped up energy has been fully released in the form of this amazing album. Brian is from the US, so when it comes to his solo songs, he tends to have an American flavor, but still sticks to the Korean structure of music. This album has some really good pieces, so it's really hard to pick a favorite.
The songs range from R&B ('Lock Me Up' and 'Erase') to club mixes ('Nae Yoja/My Girl' and 'Dreaming') to amazing acoustic ballads ('Noonmooli maleumyeon./Tears Run Dry.' ) to hiphop/pop ('Move It' and 'Tell Me Baby') to trance/techtonic pop ('Bullet'). The bonus tracks with the english versions of some of the tracks are an added bonus (especially 'Tears Run Dry'). Usually, when asian artists try to make an English version of their songs, it feels a bit awkward, but Brian really pulls through with lyrics and overall feel. It feels like he thought these tracks out in english first. ^^ If he is breaking into the American market, I will certainly look forward to it.

I love all the tracks. I have no complaints, but if I were to pick a track that really stood out from the rest, it would have to be 'Lock Me Up'. This track is one of the slower R&B tracks with a thumping technic beat and an amazing harmonized chorus.

Also 'Chinguui Yojareul Saranghaene' feat Tablo is amazing. The bass is really good and the song flows so well. It has a similar backbeat to a famous american dance track, but its been remixed. This album is really well thought out and I really would like to thank the composers and mixers of the actual music compositions. They really deserve some attention. Thank you, Brian, for this masterpiece!
