Windows dvd maker and mpeg-2 please help why when i click on windows dvd maker it says compatible mpeg-2 video encoding software needs to be installed on your.

I'm at a loss, I have spent hours on the phone with HP and Microsoft they can't fix my problem. I'm using Vista Home Premium I'm trying to publish a movie I made in Movie maker and it says mpeg-2 encoder is missing (I had Klite already on my computer from a previous problem I was having).

I called HP they uninstalled reinstalled Klite and some other programs still nothing different. Now my movie I made is not showing the video on some clips and my dvd burner still does not work. Anyone have any suggestions please?

No surprise, but the Media Center Decoder Utility (MCDU) only shows.decoders., but your system is complaining about a missing.encoder. Let's look for the missing encoder. Go to Start and type in the Search box, 'msmpeg2enc.dll'. Assuming that you haven't disabled file indexing this should find the MS MPEG-2 Encoder DLL.

Or, if it doesn't find it we know that it's missing. If you see more than one, the only one that we are insterested in will be in C: Windows System32 or wherever your System32 directory is.

That will tell us if the file is present or absent. But even if it is present, we still need to check to see if it is registered. Get a copy of the utility,. This utility does not require installation, just unpack the zip file. Run RegDllView and do a Find (Ctrl+F) on 'msmpeg2enc.dll'.

If it's found, right-click on it and choose 'Copy selected items', then paste the output in a new post. Don't worry about the formatting. If it's not found let me know. Download.just. the Tweak Tool from.

Ironically, this tool comes from the K-lite people. While I recommend against their codec packs, the Tweak Tool is very useful. Set it to detect broken codecs and filters and let it fix what it can.

Well, unfortunately, that does not sound promising. In RegDllView, you want to look in the top box. Use the menu item View - AutoSize Columns to make the full filenames show up. When you search (Ctrl+F) and enter 'msmpeg2enc' it will highlight the entry if found. I just tried searching for a non-existent file and the search feature in RegDllView does not provide any feedback it just remains with the first item selected.

When I do a find on msmpeg2enc it moves to that filename and when I copy (Ctrl+C) the item, it shows this: C: Windows System32 msmpeg2enc.dll607/17/2007 0:48:50 Do you have this file on your system? It must be in the path shown, C: Windows System32. The dvd burner was working fine until I started messing with the dang klite thing because my movie maker wasnt working well i was using wrong format files so that was the problem i made a new movie in a new version of movie maker with the right formats and it works fine but the dvd burner isnt workign cause the mpeg2 encoder. I dont have klite on my computer anymore but i did the tweak tool thing you suggested. Not sure if i need klite too. If this doesnt work guess i need to take it to get fixed at best buy or something cause i have these movies ive made and i need to burn them to a dvd without having to use other peoples computers ya know (i do however appreciate all the help you have given em thus far).

Except as noted, this filter supports the same encoding features as those two encoders. Initially the filter has one input pin, which can accept audio or video input. When that pin is connected, the filter creates a second input pin. If the first input pin receives audio, the second input pin accepts only video, and vice versa. Each input pin supports the same media types as the corresponding encoder filter. If only one input pin is connected, the filter supports the same output types as the corresponding audio or video encoder.

Windows 7 Update

If both pins are connected, the filter supports the following kinds of output:. Audio-visual in an MPEG-2 program stream. Audio-visual in an MPEG-2 transport stream These correspond to the following output types:. MEDIATYPEStream, MEDIASUBTYPEMPEG2PROGRAM. MEDIATYPEStream, MEDIASUBTYPEMPEG2TRANSPORT This filter cannot multiplex streams that were previously encoded.

The input streams must be uncompressed audio/video, which the filter encodes before multiplexing. The multiplexed stream is limited to one program, containing up to one audio and one video stream. Codec Properties The filter supports the combined properties of the and filters, with the following difference:. The property sets the average bit rate for the video stream.
